6 Rival opponents we'd love to see the Mavericks start the 2024-25 season against

4. Minnesota Timberwolves

One team that is desperately hungry for some revenge on the Dallas Mavericks is the Minnesota Timberwolves. After all, the Mavs beat the Timberwolves in five games to clinch the Western Conference and advance to the NBA Finals. A Western Conference Finals rematch to start the season would be an elite game.

One player who caught huge comparisons of NBA legends was Minnesota's Anthony Edwards during the playoffs. Luka Doncic responded to that and defeated Edwards' Timberwolves, and won all three road games in the series.

If the Mavs were to open against the Mavs on the road to start the season, it could lead to Doncic trash-talking the angry Timberwolves fans again like he did in the playoffs. Doncic had his signature trash-talk moment from the series with his "who's crying now, (expletive)" bombshell with Snoop Dogg in attendance.

Doncic also had a signature trash-talk moment after he drained the go-ahead three over Rudy Gobert in Game 2.

Edwards and Doncic will also be two players who will be in the discussion for the MVP. It would make sense for the NBA to schedule a game with two elite superstars leading their teams to open the 2024-25 season. If one outperforms the other, that would be a good way to open the case as to why one of them will win the MVP and get social media buzzing.

The Mavs and Timberwolves each have bright futures with their superstar players, and an opening game against one another would be a marquee game. These two teams will have crucial games for standings positions, and opening the season against one another would be a perfect game.

Their playoff series was physical, and an opening game between these two teams would get their mini-rivalry started early.
