5. LA Clippers
When the Mavs began the 2024 NBA Playoffs, they defeated the LA Clippers in six games.
How about a potential odd twist for the Mavs? From opening the playoffs against the Clippers to opening the following season against the Clippers.
The Mavs and Clippers have had a steady playoff history since 2020, as the teams have met three times in five years in the first round of the playoffs. Each game, the rivalry intensifies, and opening the season against the Clippers would be a phenomenal game to open against.
There will be more fuel added to the fire between for the Mavs and Clippers rivalry entering the 2024-25 season. Paul George leaving the Clippers in free agency to sign with the 76ers gives the Clippers an extra spark since the Mavs helped end their failed super team.
Also, former Maverick and fan-favorite wing Derrick Jones Jr. signed with the Clippers in free agency. Jones Jr. leaving hurt Mavs fans. Although Mavs fans were disappointed to lose Jones Jr., they were able to replace him by signing Naji Marshall. Jones Jr. is a fearless defender and his potential physical defense while guarding Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving would be a sight to see.
Even if the Mavs don't open at home against the Clippers, the Mavs can potentially be the first team that plays in the Clippers' new arena. It can give Mavs players the chance to shine bright in LA.
The Mavs and Clippers still have a strong rivalry, and this would be must-watch television to see them open up the season against each other.
