Jason Kidd gives key update on only injured Maverick ahead of Finals
By Noah Weber
The day that Dallas Mavericks fans have been dreaming of for nearly 15 years is finally almost here.
The Mavs will begin the 2024 NBA Finals on Thursday against the Boston Celtics, and fans can't wait to see Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving playing on the biggest stage. They proved everyone wrong who thought they wouldn't work, and now they have the chance to win the NBA Finals in just their second season playing together.
This would be a huge feat, and despite getting most of the praise, the role players have also stepped up. Dallas' center duo of Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford has been excellent, and they also got Maxi Kleber back from injury in the Western Conference Finals, and now they're almost 100 percent healthy.
Jason Kidd gives injury update on Olivier-Maxence Prosper ahead of Finals
The only injured Maverick at this point is rookie forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Mavs head coach Jason Kidd gave a key injury update on him at practice on Sunday.
Kidd said that Prosper didn't participate in their full practice, but he was seen working individually during the open period of practice. Prosper was seen running and shooting jump shots, and that is definitely a step in the right direction considering he has been out since April 21 with an ankle injury.
Kidd said that Prosper is "doing better," but he isn't sure if he'll play in the NBA Finals. Kidd didn't completely rule out a Prosper return, but there is no reason to rush him back considering that he hasn't played in over a month.
Prosper isn't someone who played a lot during his rookie season after having some sky-high expectations set for him after the Mavs drafted him, but it's still a good sign that he could be on the brink of a return.
Prosper has become a fan favorite among Mavs fans even though he didn't play a ton, and his friendship with Lively II is so pure. These two rookies tackled their rookie seasons together, and now they're playing on the biggest stage this June.
For all the latest on Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Jason Kidd, and the Dallas Mavericks throughout the 2024 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, stay tuned.
