Mavericks coach Jason Kidd expresses concern on Luka Doncic’s lingering injury
By Will Miller
Luka Doncic reaggravated his thigh injury pretty handily a few weeks ago at the 2023 FIBA World Cup with Slovenia. Doncic spoke of the discomfort after Slovenia lost their second-to-last game in the tournament against Lithuania.
"I do not know what to say. It's not okay. At the same time, I have to prepare for one more game, and then for a whole season in the NBA."

Doncic’s left thigh has been plaguing him for quite some time now. It was bothersome toward the end of the regular season in Dallas and periodically would cause him to miss a game here and there.
Luka’s confidence in his thigh seemed to falter ever since the beginning of the World Cup, so we can only hope he’s been able to rest and recover ahead of training camp starting tomorrow.
Jason Kidd went on "The Saturday Stein Line with Marc Stein" on 97.1 The Freak a couple of days ago and had some intriguing things to say in regards to the status of Doncic’s lingering left thigh.
"I think hopefully as we go forward here, that he will be ready to go. I presume that sometimes in our career, we are not 100 percent. Maybe we're 99 or 95 percent. The more games you play, the longer your career, I think you can ask anyone. No one's really 100 percent."

It seems as if it’s unclear whether Luka Doncic will be ready to go without any restrictions as we start training camp here tomorrow. But his injury also doesn’t seem like something that could last beyond the next couple of weeks or something that would affect him too adversely unless he continues to reaggravate his left thigh.
Kidd ended off the segment with Stein on Doncic’s thigh with an optimistic outlook in regards to how the Mavericks could manage his workload as a means to lessen re-injuring the thigh, so hopefully it isn’t total doom and gloom to start the season in Dallas.
"Now, looking at our roster, hopefully, we don't have to play him 40 or more minutes per night. With the depth that we have, I thought Nico (Harrison) did an incredible job this summer, but I'm excited with Luka and Kyrie Irving, and having Luka ready to go and achieve his goals, and that's to win a championship."
