Dallas Mavericks climb into top 8 in Week 24 power rankings
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks won three of four games last week, including key victories over the Timberwolves and Jazz to not only avoid the play-in mix but move up to fourth in the Western Conference. Superstar Luka Doncic had two 30-point games to put the Mavs into the driver’s seat for homecourt in the first round of the playoffs and give them a chance to move into the top three.
There is still a lot to be decided in the West as we enter the final two weeks of the regular season. Phoenix and Memphis are locked in at the top, but three through seven are separated by just 5.5 games. The Jazz and Warriors are both on losing streaks and could be in danger of slipping to sixth and fourth respectively. Every game is important for each squad in a group that includes the Mavs.
Dallas is 17-6 over their last 23 games and has one of the best records in the league since the calendar flipped to 2022. Was it enough to move them up in the weekly power rankings? Did the Mavs finally jump into the top five? Let us take a closer look.

Bleacher Report moved the Mavericks up to sixth in their weekly power rankings, which came out before Sunday’s win over the Jazz. They ranked Dallas the highest this week with The Athletic (subscription required) putting them seventh, and ESPN holding the Mavs at eight.
Dallas remains just outside of the top tier, and they cannot seem to find a way into the top five. Few experts believe in them as serious title contenders, but Luka Doncic has other ideas. The 23-year-old superstar is locked in and on a mission to lead the Mavericks on a deep playoff run. How far will they go? It will be fun to watch, so do not miss a second of the action.
