Game Dallas Mavericks fans cannot miss in 2022-2023 season: 3. Playoff rematch to start

Matchup: Dallas Mavericks at Phoenix Suns on Oct. 19 at 9:00 p.m. CT on ESPN

The Mavericks drew the Suns in Phoenix to open the season on national television. The Wednesday night showdown will be a feature game of the opening week as the Suns look to get a bit of revenge. Each of the Mavericks first four games are on national TV, so fans should get to see plenty of them early.

Phoenix had the best regular season record in the NBA last season by eight games, but they had zero answers for the Mavs in their final two playoff contests as Dallas won handily twice to advance to the conference finals.

Chris Paul and Devin Booker struggled as the series wore on, but can the superstar duo bounce back in the season-opener? Will Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock be able to slow them down or can the Suns’ duo take over late and lead their team to victory?

The Mavericks signed JaVale McGee away from the Suns this offseason, and head coach Jason Kidd was quick to name him the team’s starting center. What can the seven-footer do in his first game against his former team? Expect McGee to be heavily involved in the pick and roll with Luka Doncic when he is on the floor. The Suns will struggle to stop his rolls to the rim, especially if they are throwing extra defenders at the Mavericks superstar.

There will be plenty of storylines for this cannot miss season opener that every fan should have marked on their calendars already. The Mavericks will return to Phoenix after beating them by 33 in Game 7 of the conference semifinals. Expect things to get wild in the opener.
