2022 NBA Draft mock #14: Washington Wizards: Jean Montero
Montero can put on a show. The 18-year-old dominated the second division in Spain last season where he averaged 18.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.5 steals in 29.5 minutes per game. He has a fantastic handle and can break down the defense with his dribble. Montero has shown touch in the mid-range, but his 3-point shot is inconsistent and still developing.
The 6’2 guard decided to bypass the traditional college or professional route and signed with Overtime Elite. Montero is looking to be their first first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
His ability to score will intrigue NBA teams, but there are questions too. Montero needs to showcase an improved 3-point shot and the ability to run an offense this season if he wants to be a top ten pick next summer.
The Washington Wizards upgraded their roster around Bradley Beal this offseason in hopes of returning to the playoffs. Can Spencer Dinwiddie, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, and Montrezl Harrell help them make the leap? If not, does that end Beal’s time in Washington? The Wizards could look extremely different or relatively the same next summer, but Jean Montero fits their mold of score-first guards with plenty of potential.
