The offseason might be coming very soon for the Dallas Mavericks. With a horrendous season of injuries along with trading future pieces like Luka Doncic and Quentin Grimes, the Los Angeles Lakers have become contenders, while the Mavericks are scraping into the Play-In Tournament.
Following Anthony Davis' dominant debut which ended with an unfortunate injury that sidelined him for a considerable amount, the infamous Doncic-Davis trade looked to be foolish by the Mavs fanbase. Considering Davis' injury being a massive worry, the nightmare for the Mavs became true within Davis' first three quarters.
This set off a cannon of the basketball gods cursing the Mavericks that turned into a nightmare when Kyrie Irving went down with an ACL injury, perhaps the worst injury he's ever faced in his career. Now, fast forward to a Mavs PR nightmare right before the Play-In Tournament with embarrassment for the organization somehow now at an all-time level.
Harrison has disregarded Mavs fans to the point of no return
The Mavs decided to hold a private media session with Harrison and CEO Rick Welts along with specifically hand-picked media members to attend with no microphones or cameras. Without even 24 hours of notice, this was already a weird look to an organization that's been publicly called out for over two months now.
Behind closed doors, Harrison made a completely tone-deaf comment to show either he just doesn't truly understand, or he straight up doesn't care about what his fans say anymore.
"My obligation is to the Dallas Mavericks, it's what's the best interest of the Dallas Mavericks," Harrison said. "Some of those decisions are going to be unpopular maybe to Dirk and maybe to the fans, but my obligation is to the Dallas Mavericks."
Mavericks fans are one of the most loyal fan bases in the NBA, and Harrison clearly doesn’t care about them if he had the guts to say this to the media. Mavs fans have helped make this organization into what it is today, and without them, who knows where the team would be.
Harrison is also bold to have taken a shot at Dirk Nowitzki, and of course, this current ownership isn't afraid to take shots at their own legendary players anymore. Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has been laughably vocal about thinking the organization made the right move by moving on from Doncic. He thinks that Harrison prepared for the future by trying to win championships for the city of Dallas.
Even though Davis has kept up his dominance, and Max Christie has been blossoming into the best version of his NBA self, Harrison did anything but hit the nail in the head. He forgot about his fanbase, and worst yet, he's completely abandoned them. This hasn't been the ideal season for Dallas, but Harrison has made it worse by taking the organization into his own hands and hiding behind closed doors to provide reasons to make up for it.
