Mavericks finally eye the Dirk Nowitzki reunion fans have been waiting for

With the NBA offseason nearing its end, the Dallas Mavericks are preparing for the upcoming training camp. Their roster has basically been finalized, but the GOAT of the franchise, Dirk Nowitzki, has given fans an extra bit of excitement for the future after he recently appeared on the DLLS Mavs Podcast for an interview with insider Marc Stein. In the interview, Dirk gave a couple of answers that hint at a reunion with the Mavericks in some capacity and maybe even a front-office role.

This is a move many Mavericks fans have been waiting for, as things have not been the same without him being involved in the organization.

Dirk Nowitzki is in contact with Masai Ujiri

Marc Stein had a lengthy interview with the Mavericks legend, but there were some things that were said that specifically should excite Mavericks fans. Along with some high praise for Cooper Flagg, Nowitzki stated he has "already had some discussions" with new President Masai Ujiri about the future of the team. And even more importantly, Dirk mentioned that Ujiri wants him to "be a part of the Mavericks."

This is great news for Mavs fans since the greatest player to ever wear a Mavericks jersey has "pulled back" from the team following the infamous Luka Doncic trade and other moves he didn't agree with. Dirk distancing himself from the only team he ever played for hurt the fanbase, but hope is on the horizon. Nowitzki seems genuinely interested in being part of what the Mavs are building, and Dallas shares this interest.

Since the firing of Nico Harrison and the subsequent hiring of Masai Ujiri, it seems as though the front office is finding its way back to the hearts of Mavericks fans. And the news that Ujiri is not only speaking to the franchise GOAT but also wants Dirk back with the team should reignite excitement among the fanbase.

Nowitzki wants to give his input to the Mavericks

Another very noteworthy thing Dirk mentioned in his interview with Stein was that he wants to "maybe have some input at some point." He stated that he will still always be a "Maverick for life" and that he would "love to be around" the team.

These statements hint at a possible front-office role for Dirk in the future, which would be another step in getting this fanbase on board with the leadership in the organization. As someone who has been around the league for over two decades and knows what it takes to win a championship, having Dirk in the front office would be a great addition to the Mavericks and likely help them make key moves. It would also help the team avoid disastrous moves.

Dirk stepping away from the team was a huge blow to the team, even though he's not on the court anymore. Morale within fanbases is a real thing, and no team is successful without a fanbase being fully behind their squad. Reuniting with the best player in the team's history, similar to how the Mavericks recently retired forward Mark Aguirre's jersey after he had been away from the franchise for a long time, will go a long way in making the MFFL community one of the best in the NBA again.
