Don Nelson had high expectations for Dirk Nowitzki's rookie year as a Dallas Maverick, but it ended on a rough note. In a way, Cooper Flagg is going through those same growing pains, but the greatest of all time in a Mavericks uniform is telling fans not to worry about Flagg's weakness. That weakness is his 3-point shot.

Flagg is the best 19-year-old on the planet at playing basketball. He's got the tools he needs to be the next long-term leader of the Mavericks, but his weakness right now is his deep range shooting. That's likely not an issue for the future, though, and Nowitzki knows it.

"(Flagg's) been shooting at an incredible clip, and as I said, there's nobody here in Dallas who worries about his three-ball, I think that's something that can come," Nowitzki said. "Quick fun fact, my rookie season I shot 29 percent from three, and it ended up being OK. We're not worried about Cooper's three ball."

Why Nowitzki isn't concerned about Flagg's 3-point shooting

Look at what Nowitzki did after his rookie season. In 1999, international players weren't as common as they are today. Nowitzki had to earn his respect, and eventually did in his sophomore season, when he increased his 3-point percentage to 38 percent. Nowitzki eventually became a Hall of Fame player after 21 seasons with a single team, a record that will probably stand for decades.

Flagg's 3-point percentage is currently at 28 percent, but a graphic from the NBA on Prime showed that Flagg is already trending in the right direction. From December to January, his 3-point percentage is 32 percent compared to 25 percent from October to November. Fans everywhere already know that Flagg is the real deal. It won't be long until he can fix his shooting from beyond the arc.

After working with Stephen Curry in his own camp, you would definitely think Flagg already has the tools to get better with 3-point shooting. Curry even complimented him by calling him a "true hooper," and how the league is in good hands with Flagg eventually taking the torch from players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Curry himself.

His ability to attack the rim is already silencing many of the doubters who were on his back before. Sure, his 3-point shot may not be polished yet, but even some of the best defenders in the league are taking note of Flagg's offensive abilities. He will no doubt be a deadly shooter at the same point in his career, making him absolutely unstoppable.

The Mavs legend is in his first year with Prime Video, along with his longtime buddy and former teammate, Steve Nash. Even Nowitzki couldn't hide how poorly the Mavs started. Nico Harrison was fired at the beginning of this season after trading away Luka Doncic in arguably the worst trade in sports history in the season prior.

It seems Nowitzki has come to his senses to offer the best advice on what Flagg can become. Flagg can become one of the most complete ball players we've seen in history. Nowitzki is already recognizing that by acknowledging Flagg's weakness, but also telling fans not to worry.
