The Dallas Mavericks are set to begin a new era of basketball next month, as the team will start its first season with Cooper Flagg on its roster. It's an exciting time for fans, with a core group centered around Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Kyrie Irving, once he returns from injury. So, this new squad has media and fans ramped up to see the Mavs in action.

However, even with Flagg on the roster, streamers and analysts can't help but question the Luka Doncic trade. Two weeks ago, Mark Cuban, former Mavericks' owner, was on the Gil's Arena Podcast to discuss the infamous trade. When questioned about his true feelings, Cuban reiterated, "I hope they go 0-82" when talking about the Los Angeles Lakers. He further explained his love for Doncic, but disgust toward the Lakers.

This wouldn't be the only time Cuban discussed the trade. Recently, Cuban was also on The All-In Podcast to discuss various topics, including healthcare and the two-party system. Yet, before getting to that, the panelists couldn't stray away from pestering Cuban about his views on the team's handling of the Doncic trade. His response is something fans may not want to hear, as more Nico Harrison news is dropped.

Mark Cuban reveals what really happened before the Luka Doncic trade

When questioned about his role in the Doncic trade, Cuban spoke the truth. He explained that after the Mavs' NBA Finals run, he began to distance himself from the team, stating, "I didn't want to get in the way" because the team was rolling, referring to their 2024 Finals run. Shortly after, he stated, "That was a mistake," implying he should have been involved with the team. This reiterates the motion that Cuban had no say in the trade.

Cuban's mistake, though, highlights a bigger problem within the organization. On the podcast, Cuban highlights the idea that he was shut out of the team's decision-making, as all signs point to Nico Harrison as the antagonist.

"Some things that happened internally where the person (Nico Harrison) who traded Luka (Doncic) didn't want me there, Cuban said.

This perpetuates the notion that Cuban was shut out of any decision-making. If you recall, back in February, Marc Stein reported that Cuban didn't know about the trade until it was verbally agreed upon. Stein explained Cuban was never approached about the idea of Doncic being traded, and once he found out, it was too late.

So, again, it was a move waiting to happen. When Cuban signed over ownership to Governor Patrick Dumont, it was expected that he would leave the team in good hands. Dumont was a highly successful businessman who made key business deals, while Harrison was a valued Nike employee whom players entrusted.

Yet, it's clear that trust was never developed. The more trade news that continues to unwind, the harder it'll be for fans to believe anything the organization says. If you need proof, remember the amount of "Fire Nico" chants the team endured last season. It was living proof that Dallas fans felt a certain way towards Harrison.
