Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban recently revealed that he doesn't regret selling the team, but rather, he regrets who he sold the team to. Cuban sold his majority stake of the Mavericks to the Adelson family and Patrick Dumont in December of 2023, but he still owns 27 percent of the team.

Cuban calling out Dumont isn't a major shock, given everything that's transpired over the last 14 months since the trade. But it definitely made things interesting for an organization still trying to move on from the Luka Doncic trade. Dallas has a new superstar in town with Cooper Flagg, but the Doncic debacle continuously comes up, and rightfully so.

The Luka Doncic trade is still a dark cloud over Dallas

There's always a new development surrounding the worst move in NBA history, with the most recent revelation being that Jason Kidd was involved in the deal along with Nico Harrison. Mavericks fans have found it impossible to move on, as new intel is always dropping over one year after the trade went down, and Cuban's recent comments have only added fuel to the fire.

It's not every day that a minority owner exposes the majority owner of his team, along with the head coach, and two of the most important Mavericks were just thrown to the wolves amid one of their worst seasons in the 21st century. Dallas has only won 24 games this year, and more drama surrounding the Doncic trade and Cuban selling the team is the last thing that they needed.

Doncic being kicked to the curb changed everything for Dallas, and Cuban publicly criticizing Patrick Dumont and the team's ownership group, along with Kidd, just made things even more awkward than they already were. The offseason can't come soon enough.

Ownership tensions set Mavericks up for awkward moments

Cuban and Dumont both regularly attend Mavericks home games at the American Airlines Center, but very seldom do the two owners interact. Dumont sits in his courtside seats near half-court, while Cuban sits in the corner near the Mavericks bench — where he always sits.

Cuban can commonly be spotted in Mavericks attire, while Dumont, on the other hand, is always sporting a suit. The two couldn't be more different, and once again, Cuban has been weeded out from making decisions.

He expected to have a seat at the table when it comes to basketball decision-making after Harrison was fired, but his role here has shrunk considerably — again. Cuban was even interested in buying the Mavericks back from Dumont less than two months ago, but he wasn't interested in selling.

This is Dumont's team now, and with Cuban having nothing to lose, he's throwing some unexpected haymakers.
