Right as Dallas Mavericks fans thought they were done hearing new developments from the Luka Doncic trade and its aftermath, they were hit by a freight train of news earlier this week. Mark Cuban confirmed that Jason Kidd was involved in the trade, throwing fans into an entirely new whirlwind of emotions.

There were already reports indicating Kidd was involved, and Cuban's podcast appearance removed all doubt. He would know as well as anyone who was involved, and he opened an entirely new can of worms that fans have to sort through.

Mark Cuban's comments put Jason Kidd in an impossible position

This was supposed to be Nico Harrison's trade, and only his trade, but Cuban said that Kidd was in on it as well. Kidd originally said that he didn't find out about the trade until right before it went through, but Cuban threw this former reality into the fire. He was asked about Cuban's comments before Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, and fans are up in arms over how he handled this in an interview with Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News.

"When are we going to move on?" Kidd asked. "We have to move forward. We're focused on the present and the future and we've got an incredible opportunity to build."

Kidd told fans to move on following last season. And now, exactly 14 months after the trade went down, he just rehashed the same sentiment. But this time, it may have been aimed toward Cuban himself rather than all Mavericks fans.

Kidd's "move on" message strikes again

While Kidd is right in the sense that Dallas has a promising future ahead, Mavericks fans aren't happy with this response. He could've owned up to his involvement in the trade after being caught red-handed with the world to see by the former majority owner, but he avoided the question rather than slamming the door shut.

Mavericks fans have been endlessly told to move on since the trade happened, and they're tired of hearing that at this point. Dallas winning the draft lottery and selecting Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick brought life back to the city, but even with Flagg, the entire metroplex still misses Doncic.

Everyone is struggling to move on from the trade due to its magnitude, as well as the shock factor, and these new intel dumps that come up every couple of months make it impossible to do so. Mavericks fans still feel like they're being lied to about who was involved, and why it happened, and Cuban's outing of Kidd over a year later changes everything for the Mavericks.

Fans thought that Patrick Dumont was the only figure remaining in the organization who approved the idea of trading Doncic, but that's no longer the case.

Kidd was just thrown to the wolves with only six games remaining in the regular season, and this just happened to happen less than a week before Doncic plays in Dallas. The Los Angeles Lakers take on the Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Sunday evening, and emotions are going to be high.

Mavericks fans still love watching No. 77 play, and every game that he plays reminds them of the pain that came along with Harrison's decision to trade him in the middle of the night of February 1, 2025. Doncic was destined for greatness in Dallas, and over a year after the trade went down, a new villain has been added to the mix in Kidd.
