The 2025 offseason has been one of the most unexpected turn of events for Dallas Mavericks fans everywhere. Even when the Mavericks had a 1.8 percent chance of getting the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, this was the summer from heaven when the Mavs realized they were about to get Cooper Flagg in the draft.
Flagg is a generational talent coming from the Duke Blue Devils, following playing at Monteverde Academy in high school. There's already been so much noise surrounding the 18-year-old, like when Jason Kidd was rumored to join the New York Knicks. This was part of a wild conspiracy theory that was going to lead Giannis Antetokounmpo to New York, but it doesn't look like that's happening as Kidd is staying in Dallas, and Antetokounmpo is staying in Milwaukee. Now, Flagg has more unnecessary noise to deal with thanks to the NBA world trying to hype up LeBron James being traded to the Mavs this offseason.
The James hype is nothing but a media frenzy, as all of the noise surrounding James joining the Mavs via trade was created by fake X accounts searching for clout. It has already been reported that the Mavericks only want James if his contract is going to be bought out, and they have no interest in pursuing a trade for him. With James set to play his eighth season with Los Angeles, it's time to take Dallas out the equation.
LeBron James to Dallas rumors aren't real and they have to stop ASAP
Don't get it twisted.
Mavericks fans might not know what to do if they were to get an ESPN alert with the notification of James going to the Mavericks. The truth is, they have their team now. There's nothing for Nico Harrison to do. If he does, depending on who he trades, fans might just start calling for his job once again, as making the salary work in a trade for James would be an uphill battle.
It's almost like someone from the Mavericks organization needs to make it crystal clear that the Mavs aren't interested in James. They already figured out their guard dilemma by signing D'Angelo Russell, and with Ryan Nembhard stepping up in the NBA Summer League, it's safe to say that Harrison has his team for next season.
James is a future Hall of Fame player, no doubt. The NBA's all-time leading scorer doesn't look like he's slowing down anytime soon either. In fact, he might just go until he's 45 like Tom Brady did in the NFL. Playing in the NBA is 23 seasons is hard enough, but James is starting to give his fans some doubt by going through continuous groin injuries.
The rumors don't even look credible, and this is only drawing more confusion between the organization and the fanbase, not something that the Mavs PR team wants to deal with again, especially after the nightmare that Harrison has gone through in the last five months. Except this time, it's not Harrison's fault; this rumor has been squashed dead for the last week.
Even if James were to end up with Dallas, this could make for a confusing depth chart, depending on who stays. Nobody wants to think about hypotheticals at this point. They need Kyrie Irving to get better, and for Anthony Davis to be ready once the season starts. Just having Flagg and Davis alone could make a dangerous two-way threat in the NBA. Fans need to start thinking about that instead of the soon-to-be 41-year-old James.
