Lakers execute genius Luka Doncic move the Mavericks foolishly refused to make

Even though the Dallas Mavericks' season ended nearly a week ago after they lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-In Tournament last Friday night, the vibe around the city is still broken after its chosen one, Luka Doncic is dominating for the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs while the Mavs are watching from home.

Seemingly the entire city wants Nico Harrison to be fired for sneakily trading Doncic for Anthony Davis without consulting anyone outside of Patrick Dumont, and the glory days of Doncic leading the Mavericks are over.

The fallout of the Doncic trade couldn't be worse for the Mavs. Harrison's decision to trade him and everything that has come along with it has aged horribly, and fans are desperately wishing that things were different. Doncic wanted to be a Maverick for life and bring the city of Dallas a championship, but Harrison's disbelief in Doncic led to the most shocking trade in sports history.

Mavericks fans should wish Harrison treated Doncic like Pelinka does

The Doncic-Davis swap between the Mavericks and Lakers truly makes zero sense, and even though Doncic has only been in Los Angeles for less than three months, Rob Pelinka is giving him the one thing that Mavs fans wished Harrison would have given him.

Before the Lakers' Game 2 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Pelinka was interviewed by James Worthy and Chris McGee, and when asked about Doncic, he spoke glowingly of the one area about Doncic that the Mavericks tried to tear down after they traded him.

"He's been a great leader, in the gym every day, working hard at his craft," Pelinka said about Doncic. "Obviously you can't be one of the best players in the world without putting in the work."

Pelinka hit the nail on the head here, and this is something that Harrison and Patrick Dumont likely disagree with. Dumont subtly slammed Doncic's work ethic after the trade went down, and Harrison had major concerns with his conditioning and diet, even though Doncic nearly averaged a 30-point triple-double last season and led the Mavs to the NBA Finals.

These things don't seem to be a concern for Pelinka at all, and he even complimented Doncic's leadership; another thing that Harrison doubted when he made the trade. Pelinka and the Lakers are saying and doing all the right things when it comes to making Doncic feel at home in Los Angeles, and Doncic's loyalty that he showed the Mavericks will likely carry over to the Lakers.

Pelinka and the Lakers propping up Doncic in this way and giving him the credit he deserves is the one thing that Mavericks fans wished Harrison would have done rather than trading him, and Dallas will likely end up regretting this trade for years to come. Keeping your superstar happy is one of the most important things in the NBA, and while the Mavericks made this a priority for years, it dwindled toward the end of his time with the team. Doncic had all of the tools to go down as an all-time great and bring a championship to Dallas, but it doesn't seem like Harrison and Dumont believed in that vision.

Doncic's dominance didn't come in the way that Harrison envisioned it, and rather than accepting Doncic for his greatness and forming an inseparable partnership with him to make him the king of Dallas for years to come, Harrison has tried to be the star of the show in Dallas himself by making moves that only he thinks are right.

And it has backfired horribly.
