While the Dallas Mavericks have already made it clear that they're not interested in trading Kyrie Irving right now, this hasn't stopped the rumors and speculation. There's seemingly a new report every week about how Irving would draw significant trade interest from around the NBA if the Mavs ever made him available, and ESPN's Shams Charania predicted that the Miami Heat are going to have an eye on Kyrie as this season goes on.

Kyrie Irving trade rumors aren't going anywhere

"Knowing the Heat, they're going be monitoring Kyrie Irving," Charania said on Wednesday on the Pat McAfee.

This speculation surrounding the Heat and Kyrie heated up even more on Thursday following an episode of the Five on the Floor podcast, as Ethan J. Skolnick said that Irving has a level of interest in playing for the Heat.

"I think we've both heard that he's interested in playing down in Miami," Skolnick said. "I also know Spoelstra holds him in very high regard."

This buzz is only poised to heat up if Miami keeps struggling, but this speculation about Kyrie heading to South Beach has a problem that MFFLs are going to love: the Heat don't have the assets to make a trade for the star point guard.

Miami doesn't have the assets to trade for Kyrie

Miami gave up a haul to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo over the offseason, leaving their tradeable future first-round picks pretty slim. The Heat only have one tradeable first-round pick at their disposal, and considering how well Kyrie is playing, he's going to command much more than that if Dallas ever decides to trade him.

On top of that, the Heat don't have intriguing young players that the Mavericks would want to target in a potential Kyrie-to-Miami deal. The Heat are one of the oldest teams in the league, having just three players under 25 years old and six players in their 30s.

Taking on Nikola Jovic's four-year, $62.4 million contract or bringing in Davion Mitchell on an expiring deal wouldn't give the Mavericks much of a reason to pick up the phone. Another team would be able to offer something much more attractive.

This is not the ideal trade partner for Dallas to engage with if they ever want to trade Irving, and a deal would probably not ever gain traction unless a third team gets roped in.

Mavericks fans should be happy that the Heat don't have the ammo to trade for Kyrie, mostly due to the fact that he's become so beloved in Dallas since he was traded to the team in 2023. He has reworked his image and performed at an elite level despite being in his 30s, and Mavs fans would be crushed if he were ever traded.

The case for the Mavericks to keep Irving is obvious

While a case can be made that the Mavs should take offers for Irving due to his age discrepancy with Cooper Flagg and the difference in timelines, there's also a clear argument that the team should look to bring in more players who complement their star duo. Dallas is 3-2 after Wednesday night's win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, and they have outperformed the low expectations that were set for them before the season began.

The Mavericks could emerge as a playoff team if they keep playing like this, and this would be even more of a reason to hold onto Kyrie. He's averaging 18.0 points per game while shooting 49.1 percent from the field, showing that he still has some gas left in the tank, and he and Flagg's chemistry has been great through the four games they've played together.

The trade speculation about Irving is naturally going to come, as he's the oldest player on a team filled with youngsters, but Mavs fans don't have anything to worry about yet — especially with the Miami Heat. Their potential interest in Kyrie would be flawed from the start, as they don't have the type of irresistible package that other teams could offer, and MFFLs should be laughing at this buzz for the time being.

Kyrie is right where he wants to be until proven otherwise.
