Kyrie Irving trade speculation has been a major topic among Dallas Mavericks fans all offseason long, and NBA insider Marc Stein just gave the first real update from Dallas' end about how they feel regarding the brewing trade interest for the nine-time All-Star guard fans have been anxiously waiting for. Masai Ujiri made it clear that he would like to see Irving play with Cooper Flagg during his introductory press conference last month, and Stein's report backs this up as well.

Stein stated that Dallas has certainly received trade interest in the NBA Champion, but they're not interested in trading him right now (subscription required).

"The Mavericks, thus far this offseason, have been messaging to teams that Irving is not available," Stein reported.

Trading Kyrie Irving would've ripped the fan base apart

This is the exact news that Mavericks fans were hoping for after the team lost 56 games last season with Irving sidelined due to a torn ACL. They haven't seen the fan-favorite guard take the floor since March of last year, and fans clearly miss watching him play. He has quickly become one of the most beloved Mavericks of this era, and it seems like the end of his time in Dallas is still a ways away.

Outside of Cooper Flagg, MFFLs haven't had much to be excited about. The last two seasons following their NBA Finals berth in 2024 have been extremely disappointing, as they've missed the playoffs both years. The Luka Doncic trade started this downward spiral, and seeing Irving get traded a year and a half later would've been heartbreaking.

His presence on and off the court has been calming for a fan base that's mourning their superstar being ripped away from them, and an overwhelming majority of fans want Dallas to keep Irving rather than trade him. For the time being, it looks like Ujiri and Mike Schmitz prefer to keep their star point guard and see how he looks post-ACL surgery.

This is the answer that Mavericks fans wanted

Mavericks fans should finally get the chance to see Irving and Flagg take the court together at the start of next season, and the rumors can finally be put to rest.

Fans have had no idea what Dallas' thinking was when it comes to holding onto Irving or trading him, and Stein's report finally gives some clarity on how they're feeling. The trade interest is flowing in, but the Mavericks are standing firm and keeping their star in Mavericks blue.

Things could change quickly, especially if Dallas receives an overwhelmingly strong offer, but the Mavs seem satisfied to keep Irving heading into next season. Mavericks fans deserve to see Irving play for Dallas next season after a wild past two seasons, and if Ujiri and Schmitz stick with this stance, that's exactly what'll happen.
