Klay Thompson's return to the Bay has come and gone as the Dallas Mavericks lost a nail-biter to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night, and regardless of the outcome, Thompson had an excellent game.

Thompson finished with 22 points while shooting 6-12 from downtown, but the Mavs' late-game struggles came back to bite them again. Their decision-making at the end of the game was in question again, and Stephen Curry put the game away with a three with less than 30 seconds remaining.

Curry couldn't be stopped in this game as he dropped 37 points and nine assists, and it seems that there was some extra motivation for him in this game from his former Splash Brother, Klay Thompson.

On "The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis," Draymond Green detailed some back-and-forth between Curry and Thompson before Thompson's return game.

Thompson 'ghosted' Curry before return game showdown

Green said that Thompson and Curry texted a bit before the game about Curry not speaking for Thompson's tribute, and when Curry asked Thompson about something else, Thompson "ghosted him" according to Green.

Green said this "pissed" off Curry, and the rest is history. A motivated Curry is unstoppable, and he went into this game with a chip on his shoulder.

Curry was on an absolute heater against Dallas, and after his dagger three, he let it all of the emotion he had going into this game with an emphatic yell into the camera. This was an emotional game for all parties involved, and the Warriors came out on top this time.

This game between Dallas and Golden State could have been the perfect start to a new budding rivalry, as there was some talking between the two teams and Thompson hit Curry's signature shimmy after one of his threes. The closeness of this game from the opening tip to the final buzzer was entertaining for all, and all of the storylines going into this game made it even more exciting.

From Thompson saying it would just be a normal regular season game to Green saying he was going to run through Thompson's chest, both teams had plenty on the line going into this one. Thompson had the chance to prove to the Warriors that they should have never let him go while Curry and Green had the chance to show Thompson that they can still get it done without him.

While Curry and Green got the last laugh, this is just the beginning. Thompson is so locked in on winning with Dallas, and while Golden State still holds a place in his heart, he is fully focused on winning his fifth ring as a member of the Mavs. His next chance to take down Curry and the Warriors is on February 12 in Dallas.

Thompson is gaining chemistry with his new teammates every day, and it should only be a matter of time before Dallas starts to string some wins together. The Mavs are currently 5-6, and they have the chance to get back up to .500 tonight against the Utah Jazz.
