The last five days have been a mess for the Dallas Mavericks, as Kyrie Irving's season ended on Monday night when he tore his ACL against the Sacramento Kings. This was an insufferable moment to watch for Mavericks fans, as the season rested on Irving's shoulders, and everything has been doom and gloom ever since.

Fans were excited about the potential of the team this season with Irving leading the way and holding down the fort until Anthony Davis potentially returns, but the hope of that happening has been obliterated. While there is still some hope that Davis could return before the season ends, the optimism from fans about this scenario isn't as prevalent, as some believe that it may be wise if they shut him down for the year to prepare for next season.

Everything has snowballed ever since Irving went down, as Olivier-Maxence Prosper is now out for the season as well, and fans are searching for answers as to where it all went wrong. Fans have grasped to the fact that Irving's minutes were at a concerningly high level before he got injured, and using that fact as a reason as to why he got injured, but Jason Kidd is a big believer that conspiracy theory isn't true at all.

Kidd shuts down claims that Irving's high minutes led to injury

Kidd shut that theory down immediately, and he didn't hold back on any of the details when he was asked about it. While Kidd did say he was concerned about Irving's minutes at one point over the last few months, he doesn't think it had anything to do with what transpired on Monday night.

"The load didn't have nothing to do with the injury," Kidd said. "We're talking about one play, not the many plays before that. He steps on Valanciunas' foot. It's a freak accident. That's how it should be reported, but we're not reporting it right. We're reporting on conspiracy theories."

Kidd went on to talk about how Irving was playing some of the best basketball of his career before tearing his ACL, and he invited the challenge of the heavy workload that he was given. He strongly disagrees with the notion that the Mavericks ran Irving into the ground, and thinks the media should be pushing for the players to play more minutes and more games rather than criticizing the ones who are playing big minutes.

With the way this play happened, Irving's extra minutes that he had played over the last month had nothing to do with the injury he suffered, and Mavericks fans are going to have to live with that. There was nothing anyone could have done to prevent that from happening, as it was a freak accident and should have been treated as such.

Kidd was doing whatever he could to try to lead the team to wins, and that includes playing Irving big minutes. While he should have been playing him a bit less considering his age and injury history, he almost had no choice. Dallas' shot creation outside of Irving has been a disaster ever since the team traded Luka Doncic, and he had to play that much in order to give the Mavericks the best chance at clawing out some wins.

There is nothing to point to about this injury other than unluckiness, and time will tell if the Mavericks can find a way into the play-in next month without their star guard.
