Jason Kidd blew his one chance to end the Mavericks' Luka Doncic trade drama

Jason Kidd had the perfect chance to separate himself from the Luka Doncic trade, but he did the opposite.

When the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic last season, the fan base believed the move was a one-man job, with the blame being centered around Nico Harrison. ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon even stirred the speculation when he broke the news that Harrison traded Doncic out of built-up frustration over his conditioning, a problem Harrison believed would never go away.

However, Marc Cuban recently shut down the rumor above, implying the notion that head coach Jason Kidd was in on the infamous trade. Cuban jumped on the "Intersections Podcast," explaining that "the head coach and general manager" didn't have enough justification for trading Dallas 'best player."

It further outlines the idea that Kidd knew about the deal, something the coach is tired of talking about. Before the Mavs lost to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, Kidd was pressed about Cuban's comments.

Kidd's response to the question didn't help his case, as his inability to deny the claim of his involvement in the trade further perpetuates the idea that the coach was most definitely involved.

Jason Kidd's seven-word response just made things worse

The Mavs' coach continues to put himself in an awkward spot, as he once again failed to win back a fanbase still grieving over their past franchise star. Kidd was questioned about his involvement in the Doncic trade. His response blew his one chance to finally clear his name of any involvement, as he once again repeated a phrase fans are accustomed to hearing.

Kidd asked, "When are we going to move on?"

It's a message fans have heard before, as Kidd told fans the same message towards the end of last season. If you recall, the head coach told fans they must move forward and that they have a great opportunity to build something for the future.

Kidd's statement, though, failed to hit home, as fans want more than just a "move on" statement. There was a possible glimmer of hope that the head coach would deny the allegations. He had an opportunity on Monday to clear his name of the mess Harrison created.

The Mavs' coach screwed his chance to make amends with the fanbase, as his name, like Nico's, will always be connected to trading Doncic.

Why the Luka Doncic trade will never stop haunting the Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks will always be connected to Luka Doncic, as the franchise must realize that Nico Harrison and Jason Kidd fumbled the bag, literally.

The team traded one of the top five players in the league at the peak of their career, while the fanbase was forced to hit the reset button. It was a strange and confusing scenario, as Dallas had just made the NBA Finals the year before trading him.

The trade should never have happened. Anthony Davis, the player Harrison thought was going to change the direction of Dallas, is gone. It's something that can't be changed, and the organization must understand that Doncic was supposed to be a Maverick for life.

Mavs fans must now sit back and watch their former star help try to win a championship with another team. It's a painful reality that can't be reversed. Doncic was supposed to help Dallas make another NBA Finals run. Thanks to Nico Harrison and Jason Kidd, that vision is over.
