One of the top reasons that Nico Harrison suddenly traded Luka Doncic last season was due to the fact that he believed that he couldn't stay healthy for the long run, and it only took one game for Doncic to suffer a minor injury this season.
Doncic was elite in his first game of his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers last night against the Golden State Warriors, as he finished with 43 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists, but he was seen grabbing at his right groin area late in the game. As Dallas Mavericks fans know well with Anthony Davis, groin injuries are no joke, and even though Doncic brushed off any concern after the game by saying "it's probably nothing," there is room for concern for Lakers fans.
Lakers fans have seen both LeBron James and Davis deal with groin injuries in the past, and they'll be crossing their fingers that Doncic's injury is different from what the other two aforementioned stars have dealt with. Doncic said that his hip went the opposite way when he tweaked it and "felt it a little bit," and Lakers fans should know more about the severity of what he's dealing with ahead of Friday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Toward the end of his time in Dallas, Doncic's injuries seemed to spike, and Harrison clearly believed that his concerns with Doncic's conditioning would lead to him being injured more often and not being able to stay on the floor as he got older. Doncic responded to this chatter by going on a summer revenge tour, completely transforming his body and getting into peak shape, but even this couldn't save him from tweaking something in his groin on Tuesday night.
Doncic is known for playing through injuries, as he hates missing time, and he could be right about this injury not being concerning. He oftentimes suffers a small injury during a game, and it bothers him until the game ends, but he finds a way to play through it and get the treatment that he needs to be available for the next one.
But if this is indeed serious and he has to miss time, Harrison's prediction about his body breaking down could be coming true in the shadows. Doncic spends long summers playing for Slovenia, decreasing his time to rest and recover from the previous season, and he could already be starting this season off on the wrong foot.
Just last season, we saw Davis suffer a groin injury in his first game with the Mavericks and say that he was fine and not concerned after the game, just to miss the next 18 games, so Lakers fans should hold their horses before making a conclusion about Doncic.
Harrison's decision to trade Doncic was a major bet against his health, and while the bet hasn't aged the best, considering how well he played last night, combined with the fact that he is in tip-top shape, the injury concerns are what could determine the full outcome of this trade.
