Trading a beloved franchise superstar player can be difficult for any fan base to accept, and fans will almost always be upset by such a move. For the Dallas Mavericks, their fans have had a difficult task that broke everyone's heart.
When the Mavericks traded Luka Doncic in his prime to the Los Angeles Lakers, saying the Maverick fans went ballistic is an understatement. Fans immediately began to show their frustration and displeasure with the organization.
It's been almost two weeks since the trade and fans still can't get over Doncic not being a Maverick is real life. Doncic recently made his Lakers debut with Dirk Nowitzki watching in person and it made Maverick fans sick to their stomach to see Doncic in the purple and gold. However, as upset and angry as the Maverick fans might be about the Doncic trade, one former Miami Heat legend has had enough and sent a direct shot at them.
Udonis Haslem tells Maverick fans to 'get over' the Luka Doncic trade
Ex-Miami Heat star and legend Udonis Haslem is very familiar with the Mavericks. Haslem and the Heat won the 2006 NBA Finals against the Mavericks, but the Mavericks got their revenge when they defeated Haslem and the Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals. Haslem was recently on ESPN and the Doncic trade was brought up. That is where Haslem sent a direct shot at Maverick fans about the trade.
"I got a message for the Dallas Mavericks fans, get over it," Haslem said. "Get over it."
At some point, the Maverick fans will unfortunately have to get over Doncic being traded, but they still have not gotten over it, and they shouldn't be fully over it. Mavericks fans protested outside of American Airlines Center. In those protests, the fans held negative signs directed toward general Manager Nico Harrison. Some Mavericks fans even brought a casket in protest of Doncic being traded.
During last night's Mavericks game, more chants and negative signs were directed Harrison. In response, American Airlines Center security removed fans from the game. When removed, the workers at American Airlines Center were heavily booed. The fans clearly haven't gotten over the Doncic trade even at a home game in which the Mavericks had a chance to win.

It seems that the only thing Maverick fans might care about at the moment is voicing their displeasure toward the Mavericks organization for trading a five-time First Team All-NBA player and last season's scoring champion. However, as upset as Maverick fans are, Haslem did make a strong comment toward the fans.
"You got a good franchise over there," Haslem said. "Be happy, because there's some franchises that haven't been to the Finals in 20 years."
It took the Mavericks 13 years to return to the NBA Finals after winning the Finals in 2011, so Haslem does have a point, regardless of how badly things have gone recently. Some franchises do make the Finals and win it or lose it, then go into a long drought in an effort to make it again.
Even with telling the Maverick fans to get over the Doncic trade, it still isn't working. Maverick fans' love for Doncic will never go away, but the fans will eventually have to get over the Mavericks trading their former franchise player.
Anthony Davis' incredible debut helped Mavericks fans begin to get over the trade, but now that he could miss significant time, Dallas is back to square one. It also doesn't help that ownership just keeps throwing shots at Doncic, and fans are not putting up with it.
When it rains, it pours.
