2. Clinching the 2011 NBA Finals in the 305

The night every single Maverick fan dreamed of came on June 12, 2011. The Mavs were one win away from winning their first championship in franchise history. The Mavs flew to the Magic City with a 3-2 series lead against the Miami Heat for Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals. A Heat win would force a Game 7, but the Mavs wanted redemption for the Heat from the 2006 NBA Finals.

Despite Dirk Nowitzki starting out 1-of-12 from the field in the first half, the Mavs led by two at halftime. In the third quarter, the Mavs outscored the Heat by seven to take a nine-point lead to the fourth quarter.

The Mavs would stun the Heat and their big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh by winning the Finals in six games with a 105-95 win in Game 6. Jason Terry who missed the game-tying 3-pointer in Game 6 of the 2006 NBA Finals against the Heat, would leave the Mavs with 27 points.

The criticism that Nowitzki couldn't win the big one was finally put to rest, and he was named Finals MVP. Jason Kidd, who lost two NBA Finals with the New Jersey Nets, had the third time be the charm to win his first championship as a player.
