The time has finally come. The Dallas Mavericks parted ways with General Manager Nico Harrison on Tuesday, as fans relentlessly expressed disgust and anger over the Luka Doncic trade over the last nine months. Rumors began circulating that the team was considering firing Harrison in the time leading up to Tuesday, and now, fans had their wish granted. Their actions will likely lead to Harrison's exile from the league, as the infamous trade damaged his career and legacy.

If you recall, Harrison made the trade because he believed in the motto that "defense wins championships." His mindset was that, within the next two to three years, the Mavs would be in contention for an NBA title and that vision would soon come to life. Yet, whatever the Mavs' future holds, Harrison won't be there for it. This is a decision that Patrick Dumont believes is in the best interest of the team's future.

However, not everyone agrees with Dumont's decision to fire Harrison. NBA champion Draymond Green believes Harrison was not given a fair chance, as injuries never let fans see what a healthy roster could have achieved. Basically, he was one of the few people who were on Harrison's side. He stated that it was "whack" how things turned out.

Draymond Green's wild Nico Harrison take will grind Mavs fans' gears

Green jumped on his weekly podcast on Tuesday to express his opinion on Harrison's firing (right before it happened, although rumors indicated he would soon be fired). He explained that the NBA never got to see Harrison's vision and roster at full strength. It's a statement he truly believes in, as his verbiage entailed his frustration with how things played out in Dallas.

"Y'all just wanna go point the finger at Nico because that was a storyline, now let's go make that a storyline again," Green said. "That (expletive) is whack to me."

Green is one of the few people who have come to Harrison's support.

Most reactions to the news have come with praise and recognition, as fans are relieved by the change. Green's words, though, come from someone who didn't witness the trade or its ramifications firsthand. He wasn't on a team that had to deal with "Fire Nico" chants during home games.

Green didn't recognize the ramifications. He was more focused on the future and what could happen if Harrison's plan worked out. In his podcast, he further outlined the concept of what if Harrison's plan worked out, and the team was to have success in the future. He goes on to say, "then what," basically implying what if Harrison was right? How might fans and the team react?

Although Green has failed to see the big picture, let's assume the team finds success with Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving comes back at full strength, and they go on a playoff run this season. Fans were never going to be satisfied until Harrison was relieved of his duties, even if the playoffs were in sight. He was the one who caused enormous pain and suffering for nine months. Now, they are forced to move on and watch their former superstar, Luka Doncic, average over 37 points per game.

So, sorry Draymond Green, but it seems you may be alone here. No one wants or feels sorry for Nico Harrison at this point. The reality is that the Mavs are 3-8, and a change was desperately needed. There was too much pain and suffering, and not enough hope or promise to believe his plan would work in the future. Even if Doncic magically ends up back in Dallas, Harrison will never be forgiven.
