DeMarcus Cousins' ridiculous trade idea shows he wants Mavs fans to keep suffering

The Dallas Mavericks were gifted with something they've never seen in their 45-year franchise: winning the NBA Draft Lottery. The odds were completely stacked against the Mavs, with only a 1.8 percent chance of winning the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes.

It seems like the basketball gods are gifting the Mavericks after the season went bonkers following the Luka Doncic trade, which came with much more consequences than Nico Harrison expected. Following Kyrie Irving injury to his ACL in March, it pretty much ended any pipe dream of a playoff berth.

Now, barring a ridiculous trade, the Mavericks have Cooper Flagg. Any trade rumor involving Giannis Antetokounmpo has been shut down. Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins made some stunning comments regarding what the Mavs should do with their pick instead of taking Flagg, and it's one that Mavs fans are already laughing at.

Cousins says Mavs should trade their No. 1 pick for Kevin Durant

With a trade for a 30-year-old Antetokounmpo being shut down, this seems like a wild take from Cousins. Cousins made an appearance on FanDuel TV's "Run It Back" show, claiming that Kevin Durant fits their needs more than Flagg right now.

Michelle Beadle asked Cousins if he was serious about getting rid of an 18-year-old generational star in Flagg for a soon-to-be 37-year-old in his final years in Durant, and he doubled down.

"Nico's already on record saying it's a three-year window as far as winning a championship," Cousins responded. "Cooper Flagg doesn't fit that window. A Kevin Durant does, so, I absolutely think he'll trade that No. 1 pick."

This is everything that the Mavs organization should run far away from.

One of the best prospects for the last few years just finished his freshman season as the AP National Player of the Year, and Flagg is the undisputed No. 1 pick of the draft for a reason. An 18-year-old generational talent like Flagg is something you never think about trading away. He's not only going to be a huge contributor in a current championship window. He's the new future of Dallas.

Harrison obviously knows that people have been calling for his job, and he already mentioned in his most recent press conference that he didn't realize how much Doncic meant to the city of Dallas. This was another mistake that Harrison wouldn't want to make again by trading away Flagg, and he can slowly win fans back by treating him like royalty.

This was no doubt the gift that the Mavericks needed, and while Durant would be a big help to that championship puzzle, this would increase the Mavs' age average even more, which was already a concern after the trade deadline.

Harrison already crushed the city of Dallas by trading away Doncic, and now that the basketball gods gifted the Mavs another chance to draft a superstar, he can't mess that up. Trading Flagg for Durant would be a move that would flip DFW upside down once again, and Harrison should not destroy the positive luck that happened to fall into his lap just over a week ago.
