Mavericks-Thunder rivalry is turning into a heated dogfight with the help of 1 song

The Dallas Mavericks were in a dogfight on Friday night against one of the best teams in the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

There were multiple technical fouls on both sides, including a rare flopping technical against defensive 3-and-D wing Lu Dort, who has become an enemy among Mavs fans. There were also a flagrant foul warranted against P.J. Washington for his hit against Jaylin Williams on a drive to the basket.

Since the Mavs defeated the Thunder in last season's playoffs, it's safe to say there's clear tension among the two teams as a fast-growing rivalry in the NBA.

However, there's one thing making the rivalry between these teams even stronger and it's become a subliminal message for a while now. It's all thanks to the late rapper, Nipsey Hussle.

Mavs-Thunder rivalry stirring up from 'Last Time That I Checc'd'

The song "Last Time That I Checc'd" has plenty of history beginning with the Mavs. The team was blaring the song from their locker room after a road win in Oklahoma City back in November, with the underlying message that the Mavs still run the Western Conference. The Thunder players could hear the Mavs blaring the music in their locker room "loud and clear," and OKC took note.

OKC's arena played this song after they beat the Mavericks in the NBA Cup back in December, but Dallas got the last laugh on Friday night. The in-arena speakers briefly played this song at the end of the game when Dallas had just defeated the Thunder, and this rivalry continues to grow.

Jason Kidd was asked about the recent history between the Mavs and Thunder and responded by saying what pretty much every Mavs fan is witnessing.

"We played them in the playoffs, it was chippy then. It’s chippy during the regular season," Kidd said.

Kidd then continued by saying he loves the added competition with the NBA getting closer to the All-Star break.

This rivalry has been seen as taking over the heat from the Suns-Mavericks recent rivalry, but maybe Naji Marshall might have something to say about his most recent meeting with Phoenix.

Dort has been seen as a tough defender with no mercy, but some Mavs fans have seen him as going over the top with his recklessness, like whenever his physical play caused an injury to Luka Doncic.

Thunder fans probably have Washington circled on their list of enemies, after a hard foul against Williams that led to an altercation between Washington, Alex Caruso, Kyrie Irving, and Isaiah Joe.

The rivalries in the NBA come and go, but with the way these two teams will operate over the years, it seems like "Last Time That I Checc'd" will always look to be in the middle of all the spice.
