6 Mavericks players who have no room for error in Jason Kidd's rotation
By Noah Weber
The Dallas Mavericks begin their long-awaited quest for their second ring tomorrow evening, and all eyes will be on Luka Doncic and company as they try to turn this dream into a reality.
Dallas enters the 2024-25 season after falling short to the Boston Celtics last season in the NBA Finals, and expectations have never been this high in the Luka era. Excitement is through the roof from fans when it comes to the potential of this team, and plenty of that excitement comes from their new additions.
Dallas signed Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall, and Spencer Dinwiddie over the offseason while also trading for Quentin Grimes, but this many solid role players in the rotation means that Jason Kidd's leash could be shorter across the board.

Kidd always emphasizes a next-man-up mentality every season, and if someone isn't performing up to par, he could decide to look elsewhere for production.
The Mavs have a good problem to have when it comes to a surplus of depth, and Kidd is going to have plenty of decisions to make when he finalizes the rotation ahead of the season opener against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night.
6. Spencer Dinwiddie
Spencer Dinwiddie's preseason struggles were a shock to most Mavs fans to say the least.
Fans who expected Dinwiddie to be the same player that he was during his first stint with the team were quickly proven wrong, and he is going to have to step it up big time if he wants to be a reliable piece in Kidd's rotation.
Dinwiddie was brought in to have the potential to be a spot starter when Luka Doncic and or Kyrie Irving miss time or rest, and if he plays like he did in the preseason during the regular season, that likely won't be the case.
The Mavs have a couple of players who play the same position as Dinwiddie who will be fighting for rotation minutes off the bench as well, and with the emergence of Jazian Gortman and the success that Jaden Hardy had in the preseason, it looks like Dinwiddie is going to have plenty of competition as these two could be right on his coattails when it comes to minutes.
Dinwiddie's catch-and-shoot 3-point shooting is still there, which is a necessity for guards who share the floor with Doncic, and he'll likely have every chance to prove that his preseason was a fluke right away.
