After losing to the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2025 Play-In Tournament, the Dallas Mavericks had a busy 2025 offseason. It all started when the Mavericks won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery.

Winning the lottery allowed the Mavericks to draft Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft at the end of last month. Drafting Flagg brought a new era and excitement throughout the city of Dallas. The work was then carried into free agency when the Mavericks signed D'Angelo Russell to a two-year contract.

Another new addition for the Mavericks came earlier this week, as they hired Ethan Casson to be the team's president. With a new era ahead of the Mavericks with Casson as president, he's already made a vow that the Maverick fans will love to hear.

Helping fans heal is Ethan Casson's top priority

When a new era and/or season begins for an NBA team, people in the front office will have a vision and make promises that they hope to fulfill. For Casson, he's already made a vow to the Maverick fans to give early signs of hope that there are better days ahead.

"I'm going to make healing the fans literally one of my biggest priorities, if not the most important priority," Casson said.

Hearing Casson say those words is important for Maverick fans to hear. There are still some fans who haven't healed from the shocking Luka Doncic trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. With Casson saying that he wants Maverick fans to heal, it shows he's committed to building a strong team for the future and doing whatever it takes to make Mavs fans happy once again.

Before Dallas, Casson was the president of the Minnesota Timberwolves for the past nine seasons. Casson was a highly respected president when in Minnesota, and the Timberwolves saw success with Casson as president.

Over the past two seasons, the Timberwolves have made the Western Conference Finals twice in a row, including a loss to Dallas in 2024. The Timberwolves turned into a talented and tough team to beat with Cassan as president, and the team desperately needed success after not winning a playoff series since 2004.

Now with being in Dallas, Casson wants to help Maverick fans heal, which is important and a good thing to say before the new season arrives. With Casson's comment, that can be a message to the fans that he will be committed to keeping fan favorites and superstar players long-term, as the city couldn't deal with losing one of the faces of the franchise again.

In the future, Dallas will be Flagg's team with the excitement and hype that is already radiating in the city. With already having fan favorite Kyrie Irving on the team, it'll be important that Casson is able to keep Irving on the team along with Anthony Davis for years to play with Flagg. Having Davis's superstar talent and experience can be important for Flagg to develop, and Irving has solid experience and talent that can help Flagg mature as well.

Dallas has already helped heal one former legend, Mark Aguirre, after being away from the franchise for years, when he was seen crying when the Mavericks drafted Flagg. Now, Casson must vow to keep his promise to help build for the future and help heal the fans after going through one of the craziest seasons that this league has ever seen.
