Mavericks' 'most hated villain' is exactly who fans expected — and despise

This won't be a shocker to any Mavericks fan.

Since first joining the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks have gone through a lot of pain. From losing two NBA Finals to the 1990s being a miserable decade, and much more.

Every team has that one particular villain that the fan base can't stand. For example, if you mention Michael Jordan's name in Utah, it won't end well.

For the Mavericks, the franchise has some villains that the fanbase can't stand at all, but there's one above all else that even Bleacher Report knows well.

Nico Harrison may never be forgiven in Dallas

Recently, Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes got in the Halloween spirit by writing an article titled "Every NBA Fanbase's Most Hated Villain of the Century." Even with the names of Andrew Bynum and Dwyane Wade, Hughes named Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison as the Mavericks' biggest villain for the fanbase.

Hughes mentioned the names of Bynum and Wade due to their history with the Mavericks. Bynum elbowed JJ Barea during Game 4 of the 2011 second-round series between the Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers, and of course, Wade's free-throw shooting in the 2006 NBA Finals loss draws controversy to this day. However, Hughes said that Harrison "runs away with this one."

And he's right.

"The Dallas general manager traded away Luka Donic without a bidding war, netting a post-prime Anthony Davis and a laughably weak haul of draft capital," Hughes said about Harrison.

There's no denying that ever since the Doncic trade, the hatred for Harrison in Dallas has been obvious. Protests, "fire Nico" chants, and any chance to boo the general manager have been a common thing for Maverick fans. The "fire Nico" chants even went beyond the Mavericks games and were even chanted at a Dallas Stars game this past March.

Harrison built a strong team over time, but the Doncic trade may have set the franchise back for years. Even with drafting Cooper Flagg, the Mavericks won the lottery, making it easy for Harrison to draft Flagg in the first place. They weren't supposed to get this lucky. Flagg is the future of Dallas, but it still may not matter for Maverick fans' disgust for Harrison, as he wasn't the one who netted Flagg. He just happened to get extremely lucky.

"Even if Doncic never matches his past form, and even if the Mavs win a title with Flagg, Harrison's decision will forever be the wrong one," Hughes said.

With the Lakers, Doncic has been thriving so far in his first full season with the team before he got injured. Meanwhile, Davis is once again injured in Dallas with a lower leg injury. It seems that the trade continues to get worse with Davis' inability to remain healthy for a full season. He also came into the season overweight, and isn't making Dallas' defense as deadly as expected.

If things don't turn around quicker for the Mavericks with Harrison, the Doncic trade will only grow worse, and the fans will be even more frustrated at Harrison than they already are.
