Last night, Luka Doncic's brief first season with the Los Angeles Lakers ended at home, as they lost 103-96 to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of their first-round series. This was a major disappointment, as the Lakers were the No. 3 team in the Western Conference, and this has brought the Dallas Mavericks back into the spotlight after a few weeks of radio silence from a news perspective.
The only reason Dallas is in the spotlight right now is because of Nico Harrison's wild decision to trade Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, and some fans and media are backing Harrison's decision now due to Los Angeles' downfall in the playoffs. This select group says they can see Harrison's "defense wins championships" vision, as Doncic's defense was not great against Minnesota, and they think that he would have held the Mavericks back this time around.
Regardless, Doncic's defense wasn't the main reason that the Lakers lost the series to the Timberwolves, as they had several other issues, such as center depth, and Doncic losing in the playoffs isn't the only reason that the Mavs are back in the news.
Conspiracy theory about Kyrie Irving's injury is an absolute joke
Kyrie Irving was spotted courtside in Los Angeles for Game 5 to watch former teammates Doncic and LeBron James, and the conspiracy theories immediately started to fly on social media.
Of course, the age-old theory that Irving and James want to team up again at some point reappeared, and a viral video from the game of Irving has sparked a conspiracy that officially crosses the line, just as many of these theories do.

It was just a simple video of him walking to his seats on the floor, but with him walking well just a month after having ACL surgery, it caused some fans to think that Irving's injury wasn't as severe as originally reported, and that this was just a cover up to help the Mavericks get a better draft pick. Dallas ended up landing the 11th-best odds of securing the No. 1 pick in the draft, even after going all out to try to secure a playoff spot.
Nearly the entire roster was healthy for the Play-In Tournament outside of Irving and Olivier-Maxence Prosper (who was out after having wrist surgery), and there is no substance to the theory that Irving's knee injury wasn't serious.
Irving faking an injury couldn't be further from the truth, as he truly tore his ACL, and it's not unusual for people to be walking this well after the surgery. He is too much of a fighter and competitor to ever fake an injury, and everything he stands for reflects that.
The Mavericks' trade for Davis was a huge bet on the duo of him and Irving for the next few seasons, and by no means would they throw away a chance at contention for a better draft pick. Dallas' window is now extremely small without Doncic around, and if the Mavericks truly tanked the season by lying about the severity of Irving's injury, they would have never brought Davis back after he suffered an adductor strain.
Anyone with eyes could see that Irving was seriously injured in that game against the Sacramento Kings on March 3 when he tore his ACL, and the fans trying to say that Irving never tore his ACL have officially taken this too far. It was obvious that Irving had suffered a serious knee injury right when it happened, and reality doesn't shift.
Regardless of how well his recovery seems to be going.
