NBA insider Chris Haynes dropped a bombshell report that the Dallas Mavericks are expected to trade Anthony Davis ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, and fans will be on the edge of their seats to see where he is moved to. Haynes said this while on his show on SiriusXM, and the trade talk around Davis is beginning to pick up with just 34 days to go until the trade deadline.

Just last month, it seemed like the rumored Davis suitors were limited. No one was diving headfirst into the trade race for Anthony Davis, but that has changed recently.

Teams with rumored interest are coming out of the woodwork, as the Atlanta Hawks seem to be the most intrigued team at this point. The Golden State Warriors have also shown interest in the 10-time All-Star big man, and fans may get their wish of him being moved before the deadline.

Mavericks seem ready to move on from Anthony Davis

The Mavericks' stance on Davis has been unclear ever since Nico Harrison was fired. At first, the talk of the town was that Anthony Davis was on the trade block, and that Dallas would field offers for him.

This narrative continued for a while, but in the middle of last month, there were rumbles that the Mavericks wanted to compete rather than tank, and Mavs owner Patrick Dumont wanted to see Davis play with Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg before making another groundbreaking trade. The team's rumored direction with Davis has been a rollercoaster over the last few months, but it seems like Haynes cleared the air with his recent report.

According to Haynes, it sounds like Davis will be traded, and this is music to many Mavericks fans' ears.

It goes without saying that Davis is one of the best big men in the NBA when healthy. He is an NBA champion and a member of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team for a reason.

But, it's also clear that his best days are behind him. Davis' struggles to stay healthy have been amplified in Dallas, as he has only played in 26 games since being acquired by the Mavericks nearly a year ago.

Fans will also always associate him with Luka Doncic, as Nico Harrison traded Doncic to bring in Davis. It also doesn't help the Mavericks' case that Doncic is the top scorer in the NBA (33.5 points per game) while Davis is having one of the worst years of his career, and fans are ready to get out of the Anthony Davis business.

He hasn't proven to be a reliable franchise cornerstone, and the Mavericks got bailed out from sinking into NBA purgatory by landing the No. 1 overall pick and drafting Cooper Flagg. Dallas would likely be the worst team in the Western Conference if they hadn't won the NBA Draft Lottery, and Davis hasn't been as dynamic as expected.

There have been some flashes, as he remains a monster down low and an impactful defender, but he is a shell of himself, to say the least. He isn't moving as well as he once was, and his age is catching up to him.

With Dallas set on building around Flagg, trading Davis now and getting the most value possible for him seems to be the best path forward. Fans are ready to move on, and if Mavericks fans have learned anything in 2025, it's that their voices matter.
