The Dallas Mavericks are preparing for their playoff series against the LA Clippers, but a massive offseason lies ahead. They will have significant cap space to improve their roster as Dallas looks to build a title contender around Luka Doncic. The 22-year-old’s rookie max extension is on the horizon, so the Mavericks need to make the correct moves to leap into the elite tier now.

There will be plenty of rumors in the weeks ahead. The Mavs were rumored to be shopping Kristaps Porzingis at the deadline. Could those talks pop back up in the offseason? Will they re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr. and Josh Richardson? There are plenty of questions.

None may be bigger than who will the Mavs target in the offseason? Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer detailed five unexpected free agents that could be getting massive paydays this offseason. Dallas was at the center of the discussion. Here is a closer look.

Rumors: Dallas Mavericks eyeing big man in free agency

Fischer notes, “While the Mavericks did quietly gauge trade interest on Kristaps Porzingis before the trade deadline, they are more determined to find a center to pair with their All-Star big man, sources said.” He adds that Richaun Holmes and restricted free agent John Collins are possible targets.

Would either man be the perfect fit next to KP? Both men would have to defend on the perimeter more, which could be problematic. The fit is an intriguing one, though. Holmes or Collins would be a fantastic pick and roll partner for Luka Doncic. The Mavericks should be careful not to overpay, though.

Adding Holmes or Collins likely means parting ways with Tim Hardaway Jr. The veteran wing has been outstanding in his two and a half seasons in Dallas. Fischer marked THJ as a free agent in for a massive payday with the Mavs and Heat as his most likely destinations.

The Dallas Mavericks have a gigantic offseason ahead with a plethora of decisions to make. They will be looking for the pieces that push them into title contention. Stay tuned to see if the Mavs can find them in what should be another wild offseason in the NBA. Do not miss it.
