Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic drops 23 against the Sixers

The Dallas Mavericks had their final scrimmage on July 28 against the Philadelphia 76ers. They had split the first two, despite two strong performances from superstar Luka Doncic. The Mavs wanted to step it up leading into their first seeding game on Friday.

Dallas started fast against Philly. They held a 12-point lead with three minutes remaining in the first period. It was Kristaps Porzingis who got rolling early. The Unicorn sat out against the Pacers after missing his novel coronavirus test. He made up for it on Tuesday with 13 first quarter points. Luka had just two.

That did not stop the Mavericks superstar from putting on a show against the Sixers. Let us take a look at the rest of his performance.

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic cannot be stopped in the third quarter

Doncic got going in the second quarter. It started after rebounding his own miss twice before putting it home. Luka had nine points in the second stanza. He was also playing outstanding defense against Ben Simmons in the first half.

Doncic came out attacking in the second half. He was getting to the basket on nearly every possession. That led to plays like one below.

The Mavericks have used Doncic more off the ball so far in the scrimmage games. Here the 21-year-old makes a beautiful cut for an easy bucket.

Getting to the rim allowed Luka to get to the line too. He finished with 12 third quarter points before being subbed out with just over two minutes remaining in the period.

Luka Doncic finished the game with 23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in 26 minutes of action. He was nine of 16 from the field and four of six on his free throws.

Doncic looks ready for the games that count. He upped his minutes and scoring in each of the three scrimmage games. Expect Luka to hit the ground running on Friday against the Rockets. Stay tuned for all the latest on the season’s restart.
