The Dallas Mavericks began mandatory workouts on July 1. It was their first official day back in preparation for the NBA’s restart. The Mavs are one of 22 teams heading to Orlando next week to finish the 2019-2020 season.

Dallas is dealing with a few injuries coming in. They will be without Dwight Powell after he tore his Achilles in January. Jalen Brunson and Courtney Lee were also ruled out with injuries during the hiatus. Willie Cauley-Stein has opted out of the restart. That makes it four Mavs unable to take part. That means coach Rick Carlisle and the Mavericks will have to get creative in Orlando.

Fans knew Powell would not play after suffering the injury. Nearly fourth months have passed since the Mavs have played a game. The 28-year-old improved significantly during the NBA’s suspension.
