Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell helps fans social distance
Dallas Mavericks big man Dwight Powell is rehabbing from his Achilles surgery right now. He was in the midst of a career year before going down on Jan. 21. Powell was averaging new career-highs in rebounds, steals, field goal percentage, and minutes per game.
The Mavericks have not played since the NBA halted play on March 11. It appears games will not return until at least July because of the novel coronavirus. The league is still sorting out the details, but stay tuned for news in the coming days.
Powell continues to give back. The injury nor the pandemic can slow him down. Mavs fans know he is one of the most active players in the community. The 6’10 big man is finding ways to do it still.
Dwight Powell helps Dallas Mavericks fans social distance
Mavs supporters may be struggling to figure out how far away they should be when social distancing. There is no shame in that. The idea is new to all of us. Powell partnered with UT Southwestern Medical Center to offer some help. They put out a quiz with the goal of having some fun while improving your skills. Fans can take it here.
Warning, the quiz was tougher than I expected. Personally, I did poorly. Hopefully, you fare better. Let us know how you did on Twitter @thesmokingcuban.
Unfortunately, Dwight Powell will not be ready to play when the season resumes. He will continue rehabbing. Powell’s goal is to be back on the opening night of the 2020-2021 season. That looks likely to happen in December giving him a bit of extra time.
Fans know he will continue working hard. Hopefully, Powell is back on the court throwing down dunks soon. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
