Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic threw down a monster dunk late in the March 14 game against the Denver Nuggets that fans cannot afford to miss.

The Dallas Mavericks traveled to Denver to face the Nuggets on March 14. A snowstorm forced the Mavs to travel on Thursday morning which is more problematic given the high altitude in Denver. Dallas was also riding a six-game losing streak going in. It is fair to say, the Mavericks were underdogs against the second in the Western Conference, Nuggets.

Despite the losses, Luka Doncic has continued to shine. Since Feb. 1, he is averaging 22.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 2.6 3-pointers made, 0.9 steals, 0.7 blocks, and 4.1 turnovers per game in 32.8 minutes a night. Doncic has struggled with his shot a bit, but the rookie continues to play outstanding basketball. He is legitimately trending toward superstar status.

The dunk

Luka Doncic made a play that only the NBA’s elite make on Thursday evening. It was a TNT national TV game. The Mavericks had led most of the night, but a late fourth-quarter run saw the Nuggets sneak ahead. Dallas got the ball with the shot clock turned off down by one point, and Luka Doncic made some magic happen. See the play here courtesy of the Mavs official Twitter.

The 20-year-old rookie is truly incredible. It is difficult to find the proper words to describe his incredible play, especially in clutch situations. Luka is a superstar and the face of the Dallas Mavericks franchise for the next decade-plus.

The game ended on a bit of a sour note for the Mavs. Doncic missed the and-one free throw, and Nikola Jokic hit a buzzer beater to give the Nuggets a 100-99 victory on March 14.

In his postgame interview, Luka was not talking about his spectacular dunk or his near triple-double performance, though. He took responsibility for the loss after missing the late free throw. The interview shows off another star quality of the rookie.

Final thoughts

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic made an incredible dunk to put his team ahead late against the Nuggets on Thursday evening. It was not Luka’s only highlight reel play of the evening. He had another incredible move with just over two minutes to go in the game that fans can see courtesy of the Mavericks Twitter.

Doncic finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and three turnovers in 35 minutes against Denver. The rookie had a solid bounce-back performance after one of his worst games of the year on Tuesday versus the Spurs.

Luka was seen favoring his hand following his monster dunk. Be sure to check for any news regarding that potential injury in the coming days.

The Dallas Mavericks are planning to push for the playoffs next season. Building around Luka Doncic is a fantastic start. They will add All-Star Kristaps Porzingis to the rotation next season and could instantly become a factor in the Western Conference. Mavs fans should be pumped for the coming years in Dallas.
