The Dallas Mavericks have plenty of news from Oct. 15 including picking up the third-year contract option for Dennis Smith Jr. and more.
The Dallas Mavericks made an easy front office decision on Monday. The team decided to exercise their third year option on Dennis Smith Jr.’s contracts. Smith Jr. is coming off a second-team All-Rookie season where he averaged over 15 points and five assists per game. The front office likely did not even think twice about the decision.
Carlisle heaps praise on DFS
Dorian Finney-Smith played well this preseason and looks to be in line to start the Mavericks regular season opener with Harrison Barnes sidelined. The improvements in Finney-Smith’s game have been evident. Coach Carlisle gave him some props to the press on Monday. Below is a quote from Carlisle courtesy of Dwain Price.
Finney-Smith went undrafted in 2016. Carlisle said: "He’s a very solid NBA player now. I see him continuing to grow. All parts of his game have gotten better. We love him. Down the road you can even look at that draft now and he should have been a Top 10 or 15 pick." @dallasmavs

That is massive praise and should have fans believing that DFS is in line for significant minutes even when Barnes and Dirk return. Finney-Smith could be in line for a breakout season, so keep an eye on his performance as a starter on Wednesday against the Suns.
Jordan on missing Barnes and Nowitzki
DeAndre Jordan met with the media on Monday as well. He talked about the Dallas Cowboys and the Mavs without Barnes and Dirk. Below is a quote from his interview courtesy of Dwain Price.
DeAndre Jordan on not having Dirk and Barnes on opening day: "Those two guys are the cornerstones of our team. Dirk’s been here for 40 years. Harrison is a helluva offensive player who we run a lot of things for, and he’s a defender for our team, a rebounder for our team." #Mavs

The impact of those two players being out will be felt in every game they miss this season.
