The Dallas Mavericks kick off their regular season on Oct. 17, but they will be without the services of leading scorer Harrison Barnes.

The Dallas Mavericks got a bit of good and bad news on Sunday.  Fans know Harrison Barnes injured his hamstring early in training camp and missed all four preseason games.  His status for opening night was in question until the news broke on Sunday.

Barnes is out for the regular season opener on Oct. 17, but the details were not all bad.  Below is a quote from Coach Carlisle about Barnes courtesy of Dwain Price.

If Barnes can practice on that timeline, he could play in the Mavericks home opener on Saturday, Oct. 20 against the Timberwolves.  Fans cannot wait to have Barnes back in the lineup.

Expect Dorian Finney-Smith to start on Wednesday against the Suns.

DSJ is ready

Dennis Smith Jr. also met with the media on Sunday and talked about the Mavs final preparations for the regular season.  He also let fans know that they are not the only ones excited for the new campaign to start.  Smith Jr. and his teammates are too.

The Mavs should be an exciting team that is packed with potential.  That should make them a treat to watch for fans.  Get ready for what should be a memorable season.
