The Dallas Mavericks made massive additions this offseason, and it earned them the title of the second most improved team in the 2018 NBA.com GM Survey.

The Dallas Mavericks won just 24 games last season.  They were trending down as a team too.  It was the second straight season of missing the playoffs and their lowest win total since 1999.  Oh, what a difference an offseason can make.

The Mavs had a massive summer that saw them improve leaps and bounds.  They traded up in the draft to secure point forward and EuroLeague MVP Luka Doncic.  Dallas signed All-Star center DeAndre Jordan in free agency.  The Mavericks also added to their bench a mix of young talent and veteran presence.  The team is expecting to take a giant leap in the standings after their impressive offseason.

Other GM’s took notice

NBA.com released their annual GM Survey on Oct. 4.  It was chalked full of tidbits about the upcoming season.  The Dallas Mavericks got seven percent of the vote in the most improved team category.  That tied them for second in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns.  The Los Angeles Lakers and their addition of LeBron James were the runaway winners.

Dallas also ranked third in the team that made the best moves this offseason category.

It is difficult to argue against either.  The Lakers won 11 more games than the Mavericks last season, but they added the best player on the planet.  The Raptors edged them in best moves by adding perennial All-Star Kawhi Leonard.  The Mavs could edge the Lakers in most improved, but if they do that likely means playoff basketball in Dallas.

General Managers from across the league are taking notice of what Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson, and Rick Carlisle are building in Dallas, though.  Mavs fans should be excited by that.  It should be a fun year of Mavericks basketball.   Please stay tuned and enjoy it with us.
