Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic arrived in town on Sept. 4 and immediately hit the gym to begin preparing for the season.

The Dallas Mavericks saw two former players inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sept. 7.  Members of their organization attended the ceremony in Springfield, MA meaning they left the practice facility.  Head Coach Rick Carlisle, Dirk Nowitzki, and J.J. Barea were just a few Mavs that went to the event.

That did not stop rookie standout and Slovenian sensation Luka Doncic from putting in work.  Doncic arrived in Dallas on Tuesday.  It would have been easy to take a break with the head coach and franchise GOAT leaving town.  That is not Doncic’s style.  He is a hardworking 19 year old that wants to be the best.

For a bit of visual proof, below is a post from the Mavericks official Twitter showing Doncic working out at the team facility.

3-point shooting a worry?

Luka Doncic began playing professional basketball for Real Madrid at age 15.  He blossomed into their star player and MVP over his four seasons in Spain.  Doncic’s 3-point shooting is a bit of a mystery, though.

The international 3-point line is shorter, so that is worth noting.  He made 40 of 110 threes during his first two seasons in Madrid.  That is 36.3 percent for those keeping track at home.  The last two seasons, Doncic hit just 184 of 576 3-point attempts or 31.9 percent.

That is a stark difference and one of the reasons behind the lower percentage is Doncic was asked to do more in the last two seasons.  He had the ball in his hands and was asked to shoot late clock contested attempts on a regular basis.

The Mavs are firm believers that Doncic will be an adequate 3-point shooter in the NBA, but the numbers might suggest a struggle at least early in his career.  Stay tuned.

Final thoughts

Luka Doncic is in Dallas and working out with his teammates.  The Dallas Mavericks and their fans are beyond excited to have Doncic on the team.  He is seen by many as the future franchise player and expectations are high for him even during his rookie campaign.

Keep both eyes on Doncic this season because he is bound to produce some highlight reel passes and make the Mavs a better team overall.
