Dallas Mavericks release rookie Terry Larrier

Despite recently signing a training camp deal, Terry Larrier was released by the Dallas Mavericks on Aug. 9.

Not even a few weeks in and Terry Larrier’s career with the Dallas Mavericks has come to a sad end. According to Eddie Sefko, Larrier suffered a knee injury. He is expected to rehab with the Mavericks and after the preseason ends, join the Texas Legends squad.

Larrier went undrafted in 2018. The 6”8 wing went on to join the Memphis Grizzlies’ summer league team for a game and, after, the Dallas Mavericks’ summer league squad for two games. The Huskies guard averaged less than a point per game in all three of his games.

Larrier was not expected to join the roster anyway. He most likely signed a training camp only deal with the Mavs and would become part of the Legends G-League team at the start of the regular season.

Who steps up?

With Larrier out, that leaves an open roster spot. Eddie Sefko reports that the Dallas Mavericks will most likely bring in a familiar face.

Jalen Jones was recently waived of his two-way contract just before the Mavs signed Kostas Antetokounmpo. He is still a free agent, and Dallas will look to bring back the big man on a non-guaranteed contract. The likelihood of Jones remaining with the Mavs is uncertain, but if he the waive him, Jones can become part of the Legends squad.

After Jones is signed, Dallas will have 20 contracts, which is the max a team can have for training camp.

Non-guaranteed deals include Donte Ingram, Codi Miller-McIntyre, and Ding Yanyuhang. Whoever has the best chance to retrieve a fully guaranteed year deal is yet to be known. Media day is on September 21 and fast approaching, so stay tuned.
