Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Award Gian Clavell with Two-Way Contract

The Dallas Mavericks have made the next big move before the season begins by giving preseason standout, Gian Clavell the second two-way contract. This is a good move for Dallas who will keep the streaky scorer around for the upcoming season.

Not long after the general NBA fans heard about the new two-way contracts, the Dallas Mavericks announced who would be earning their first of the two. Johnathan Motley earned the first by showing his exceptional play through both sets summer league play. He was an obvious choice for the spot.

Now, as the Mavs are slowly making their way down to the roster limit, Yahoo sports own, Shams Charania broke the news that Gian Clavell would be taking the last two-way contract available. Clavell averaged nearly 9 points per game during the preseason but, if you take out the performances in which he got less than 10 minutes of game time, he jumps to nearly 13 points per game.

Clavell was especially brilliant in the win over the Atlanta Hawks in which he went 7-12 for 19 points, along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. He also shot over 42% from three-point land and 43% overall. Clavell had some definite flashes of brilliance but does not appear to be in line to take any major minutes away from anyone on the Mavs roster.

Clavell played college ball at Colorado State where he was one of the best players on the court every night. He averaged over 20 points per game over his last two seasons with the Rams and was eventually named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in his final season. After going undrafted, the Mavs scooped him up from the Miami Heat summer league team.

This news comes just before the season begins while the Mavs are preparing to make their final roster cuts. Although it is sad to see some of the players leave, Dallas can be excited that Gian Clavell is here to stay for the time being.
