The Dallas Mavericks have a handful of players who have an opportunity to be significant influences towards the team’s success. Will Rick Carlisle be able to utilize the diverse talent and make the Mavs offense versatile and, in part, unpredictable?

When it comes to diversity in talent, the Dallas Mavericks may be one of the first teams to talk about. Many stars have their niche in the NBA with great three-point shooters, hard slashers, defensive gurus, and excellent passers, but not every team has all of those bases covered. The Mavericks, however, have a group of talented players with different styles.

Let’s take a look at the different types of talent Dallas has to work with.

Dennis Smith Jr. – A drive first point guard with an uncanny ability to attack the rim and speed up the game.

Seth Curry – A sharpshooter that is getting better every year. He can catch-and-shoot, shoot off the dribble, and get to the rim successfully. Also able to get down the court well in transition.

Harrison Barnes – A player who is finally starting to get his legs underneath him, Harrison Barnes is an incredibly efficient scorer. His spot up shooting is some of the best in the league and he also does a great job attacking the rim. His defensive versatility is impressive as well.

Wesley Matthews – A known lockdown defender and three-point threat that still moves well.

Dirk Nowitzki – Slow in his old age but a threat from anywhere on the court. Dirk can catch and shoot as a trailer in a transition set or post up in his normal midrange spot in a half court offense.

Nerlens Noel – A budding star with great speed and agility who can defend the rim or the perimeter relatively well. Has the chance to be a next level defender and will grow into his offensive game as time goes on.

Yogi Ferrell – All speed and energy from Yogi who may not be the most athletic player on the court, but anyone who sleeps on him will pay for it.

Some of the Mavericks players have different skill sets but Dallas is a team that is going to have the opportunity to beat people in a number of different ways. From the three-point line, in transition, or in a half court offensive set, the Mavs will have players that can make you pay.

I am excited to see just what Rick Carlisle, an offensive mastermind in his own right, can drum up with this team. Be ready to see Dirk as a trailer, a post-up presence, and a spot up shooter on a drive and kick by DSJ. Be ready to see Junior as both a facilitator and a scorer. Be ready to see Harrison Barnes doing it all. And be ready to see Nerlens Noel wreaking havoc in the middle on both ends of the court.

The Mavericks season is getting closer and this is just one thing to get excited about. No matter what happens with the record for Dallas, this team is set to be entertaining at the very least.
