Zaccharie Risacher has had high expectations thrust on him ever since he was surprisingly selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Just two seasons into his young career, though, Atlanta gave up on him by trading him to the Dallas Mavericks, as Risacher's confidence clearly took a dip in his second season in the league. Risacher regaining his confidence could make or break his first season in Dallas, and it's undoubtedly an area he's going to need to hone in on.

While not up to par with what many expected from a No. 1 pick, Risacher had a solid rookie season and started nearly every game for the Hawks, averaging 12.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game with shooting splits of 45.8/35.5/71.1.

However, Risacher fell out of favor with Hawks head coach Quin Snyder as last season progressed. He averaged 2.2 fewer minutes per game last season compared to his rookie season, and came off the bench in 21 of 67 regular-season appearances. Whether this was due to Atlanta’s surplus of wing depth or Risacher simply losing confidence in his offensive game is certainly up for debate, but it’s probably a culmination of both factors.

Risacher’s shooting splits last season were eerily similar to his rookie season, but he attempted 2.4 fewer field goals per game and averaged three fewer points per game. This definitely bodes toward a dip in confidence for him, which is probably attributed to fan expectations, coaching decisions, and maybe even trade rumors. The good news is, the Mavericks have belief in him to turn things back around.

Cooper Flagg is the ideal young leader to help Risacher

While Risacher isn’t going to get coddled in Dallas by any means, he comes into a situation with a fresh start, as well as a team that has a more recent No. 1 overall pick in Cooper Flagg. There’s certainly pressure for him to prove he isn’t a bust, but he’s not going to have the pressure of having to live up to the hype of being a No. 1 pick in Dallas with Flagg already in the mix.

Flagg is also a great young leader and is the type of character that can elevate Risacher’s game. Risacher has everything in front of him to prove he can tap into more of his potential and become a solid starter alongside Flagg for years to come, but his confidence will make or break this proposition, as this prophecy won’t be fulfilled if he plays timidly and shies away from certain shots.

Max Christie is another budding young shooting guard Dallas hopes will blossom alongside Flagg for years to come, so Risacher will at least have to match Christie’s confidence if he wants to be a part of Dallas’ young core going forward, as there’s a world in which only one of them gets serious minutes next season.
