3. Will Spencer Dinwiddie be a reliable role player off the bench?
When the Mavericks signed back Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal, the excitement from Maverick fans was with good reason. Dinwiddie was a key piece in the Mavericks' run to the 2022 Western Conference Finals.
With the Mavericks and Dinwiddie being familiar with one another, the Mavericks trusted Dinwiddie again. But, Dinwiddie's scoring since leaving the Mavericks in 2023 has dropped off when playing with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.
Dinwiddie's 2024 struggles with the Lakers carried over into the 2024 preseason with the Mavericks, and Mavericks fans' concerns grew immensely on Dinwiddie.
Out of four games played in the 2024 preseason, Dinwiddie only scored 10 points one time. In every game, Dinwiddie shot under 40 percent from the field. Dinwiddie also struggled by shooting 3-11 from three, Dinwiddie went 0-of-3 from three in one game.
Dinwiddie also continued to have his issues with turnovers as he recorded seven turnovers in the first three preseason games, and turnovers are something that gets players sat on the bench quickly.
Dinwiddie has shown the Mavericks before that they can trust him, but he needs to be relied on as a quality role player off the bench. Dinwiddie's preseason struggles can open the door for other players on the bench to get more minutes from Jason Kidd.
