Rumors: Pistons interested in Jalen Brunson: Could be part of Jerami Grant package
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks rumors are heating up as the Feb. 10 trade deadline approaches. They are set to face a cap crunch in the offseason with Jalen Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith headed for unrestricted free agency. The Mavs are exploring the market for both players and could move one before the deadline.
Dallas wants to contend for a championship now, so trading away Brunson or Finney-Smith only makes sense if they are securing an immediate upgrade. Can the Mavericks find the right deal?
Jerami Grant is one of the best players said to be available before the deadline, and the Mavs have entered the sweepstakes. HoopsHype’s Michael A. Scotto filled fans in on the latest rumors on his podcast, and there was plenty on Jalen Brunson and the Mavs.
Rumors: Pistons interested in Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson
Scotto noted that executives believe Dallas is going to trade either Brunson or Finney-Smith before the trade deadline, and Detroit is interested in JB. He continued by saying that JB or Doe-Doe could be part of a package for Pistons forward Jerami Grant if the Mavericks can enter the mix.
Brunson has been the Mavs' second-best player for significant stretches this season, so parting ways with the 6’1 guard would be difficult. JB is rumored to be searching for $80 million in free agency, and Dallas may not be willing to pay that price given their cap crunch.
Grant is a versatile 6’8 forward that can handle the ball, space the floor, and score. He is a proven defender that wants to maintain a significant offensive role if he is dealt away from Detroit. The Mavericks need more scoring punch with Tim Hardaway Jr. on the shelf. Grant could take his game to a new level with the Mavericks.
Will the Dallas Mavericks trade Jalen Brunson for Jerami Grant before the deadline? There is at least some talk, and the rumors are going to keep pouring out, so stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
