The Dallas Mavericks need to upgrade their roster before the trade deadline if they want to become true title contenders. They could use another playmaker and need to get more production at the five. The Mavs have won six straight games and are ready to go on a run with superstar Luka Doncic back in the lineup, but they are still not one of the elite teams in the Western Conference.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania released a host of rumors (subscription required) on Jan. 10, including the Mavs being one of four teams showing interest in Myles Turner. The Pacers big man is likely to be the best center available before the deadline, but acquiring him will not be easy.

Here is a closer look at why the Mavs are interested in Turner, and what it will likely cost to make a deal happen.

Rumors: Dallas Mavericks eyeing Myles Turner

Turner is a versatile big man that makes plays on both ends of the floor. He is leading the league in blocks per game for the second straight year while shooting 35.7 percent from 3-point range. Turner’s ability to stretch the floor and protect the rim makes him the perfect fit in Dallas. He can anchor the Mavs defense and open things up for Luka Doncic to attack.

The 25-year-old big man could also take his game to another level as a roll man playing off Doncic and Jalen Brunson. Turner does not always get those opportunities playing next to Domantas Sabonis. More would come his way in Dallas, but Turner is no stranger to being a jump shooter.

Myles Turner would be returning home if he is traded to the Dallas Mavericks. The 25-year-old would immediately improve the Mavs' defense, and he could make them a difficult team to deal with on both ends of the floor.

Acquiring him will not be cheap. The Pacers are likely searching for multiple draft and young players. Would Dallas give up two first-round picks to acquire Myles Turner? It is a deal to think about, especially as the Feb. 10 deadline draws near.

Will the Dallas Mavericks trade for Myles Tuner? What does first-year GM Nico Harrison have up his sleeve before the trade deadline? Stay tuned to find out.
