Rumors: Teams still believe Mavericks in lead to sign Goran Dragic if bought out
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks have been rumored to be chasing multiple players and have important decisions to make ahead of the Feb. 10 trade deadline. Jalen Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith are both heading into unrestricted free agency in the offseason, and the Mavs will be over the luxury tax if they re-sign both players.
Dallas has won 13 of their last 17 games to move within one game of fourth in the Western Conference. They want to improve their roster and build a team that can win around Luka Doncic right now. The Mavericks need another shot creator and will be looking to add at the deadline.
They have been linked to Goran Dragic since he was traded to Toronto. The 35-year-old veteran reportedly wants to play with countryman Luka Doncic, and opposing teams still believe Dragic will finish the season in Dallas. Here is a look at the latest.
Rumors: Teams believe Goran Dragic will sign with Dallas Mavericks
The Raptors are still trying to trade Dragic. He is on a $19.4 million expiring contract and has not played in a game since Nov. 13. The 6’1 guard is away from the team and has no plans on returning to Toronto. Dragic will either get traded or bought out in February.
Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer was on the Locked on Mavericks podcast where he discussed Dragic among a host of other Mavericks rumors. See his quote on the Dragon below.
"A lot of people in the league still expect, at the end of the day, for him to get bought out. Dragic would head to Dallas in that scenario."
Fans can hear everything Fischer had to say about the Mavericks rumors and Goran Dragic below.
The veteran is a proven scorer, playmaker, and playoff performer that has a history of succeeding next to Luka Doncic. Dallas has been searching for another playmaker that can create easy shots. Dragic could push the Mavericks offense to another level, and he played a key role in the Heat’s 2020 NBA Finals run.
Will the Toronto Raptors buy out Goran Dragic after the Feb. 10 trade deadline? It appears to be headed there, and the veteran reportedly wants to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. Fans will have to wait to see how the situation shakes out, and stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest rumors.
