Ranking every Dallas Mavericks player by trade value ahead of 2024-25 season
By Noah Weber
8. Quentin Grimes
When the Dallas Mavericks traded Tim Hardaway Jr. and a few second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons for Quentin Grimes, it was viewed by many as a salary dump for Dallas. The Mavs had been trying to trade Hardaway Jr. for some time, and people quickly overlooked Grimes' potential impact.
Grimes is going to be a bigger piece than anyone realizes for the Mavs, and he'll have the chance to be one of the first guards off the bench or even start at some point next season.
Last season, Grimes averaged 7.0 points per game while shooting 37.2 percent from the field. It was definitely a down year for him compared to his first two years in the NBA, but he'll have the chance to show how valuable he is next season for Dallas.
Grimes is only 24 years old and will become a restricted free agent next summer, and he definitely holds positive trade value. He is an absolute menace on defense, and his offense is more promising than anyone seems to give him credit for.
Grimes is comfortable when the ball is in his hands, and his ability to play on and off the ball will make things easy on Dallas' coaching staff. He isn't a primary initiator at this point of his career, but his increased focus on improving his playmaking this summer should help his game tremendously.
Grimes is an excellent role player, and I wouldn't be shocked if Dallas extends him before the season is over if he turns out to be a great fit next to Luka Doncic and company.
