The Texas Legends failed to qualify for the playoffs this season, and that's okay. The main reason for the G League is to develop players so they can get promoted to the NBA.
With all the call-ups that happened in the late part of the fall, the Legends have successfully done what the G League was created for. Let's take a look back and see how the Legends did in their last four games of the 2022-23 season.
Texas Legends blown out by the Capital City Go-Go
The Legends took a trip to the east coast for a rare Eastern Conference matchup against the Capital City Go-Go. When you don't play a team that often, it can sometimes be difficult to prepare for. That's exactly what happened to the Legends as they lost 140-91.
The Legends got the first points of the game, and it went downhill from there. Grant Riller led the Legends in scoring with 25 points off the bench, but the only good thing that came from this was that the Legends might not see them for a couple of years.
Texas Legends lose to OKC Blue in the home finale
The Legends returned home after the disappointing loss to the Go-Go to get some love from the home crowd for the final time this season.
This was a back-and-forth game as the teams exchanged the lead 26 times. The Blue finally had enough and pulled away for the 122-107 victory.
A.J. Lawson led the Legends with 24 points and seven assists. They gave it their all for the home fans in the Comerica Center, but the Legends couldn't pull off the win. The fans didn't care about the loss as they had a ton to stick around for after the game, including the last postgame autographs of the season.
Texas Legends lose nail-biter to the Ontario Clippers
The Legends would go on the road for the final two games of the regular season. The first game would be against the Ontario Clippers. A.J. Lawson, Justin Jackson, and Grant Riller combined for 93 points, but the defense couldn't contain the Clippers as they would lose a close one 128-125 on the road.
I remember watching this game and thinking to myself, that the Legends had the dub in the bag. It stinks they couldn't get the win against the Clippers, but they had one more game left in the regular season.
Legends lose final regular season game to the Warriors 134-111
The Legends would go into this game knowing that this would be the final game of the season. With the team not qualifying for the playoffs, the only thing they can do is throw the kitchen sink at the Warriors. Justin Jackson would lead the Legends with 28 points, but the Warriors would go on to win 134-111 closing out the Legends season with a loss.
Even though the record doesn't reflect it, the Texas Legends had a strong 2022-23 season. They sent a bunch of players to the NBA like Jaden Hardy and McKinley Wright IV. Fans got to see NBA Champion Justin Jackson in a Legends uniform again. They even saw the NBA G League Ignite, Mexico City Capitanes, and eastern conference teams in Frisco this season. That will wrap it up for this G League season, I can't wait to see what the Legends do in 2023-24.
